For over a year, I had the pleasure of commuting this route to work. Twice a day, I would pass through this beautiful tunnel through the trees, during all different seasons and lighting and weather conditions. It was always stunning, but this blustery fall day beat out all other days for me. I always had the road to myself, so I pulled over and took a series of shots on my way home from work one late afternoon/evening.

I took this image not far from where I was living at the time, in Woodbine, Maryland, on the banks of the South Branch of the Patapsco River. I'm especially partial to the way the fog gives depth and dimension to this image.

A Friendly Little Jumper
This jumping spider was quite interactive and inquisitive, climbing all over my arms and hands and then stopping to study me and seemingly pose for the camera. Seeing and interacting with her up close allowed me to see her beauty and feel my connection with her. This experience radically changed my relationship with her. To me she is no longer a simple nuisance to be squashed, but a beautiful, complex part of the web of life (if you'll excuse the pun!) who deserves to live out her life undisturbed by me.

A Morning Walk In The Fog
This old broken down mill with the railroad tracks running through is on Hoods Mill Road, along the south branch of the Patapsco River, which runs along the Howard County/Carroll County line. I didn't live far from here at the time,
and I used to love to walk down here with my camera in hand. In the morning fog, the scene was transformed from drab to magical.

I've always dreamed of having a view like this from my yard, and now I do! :-) It's such a joy to see how the scene changes with the seasons. Fall is particularly striking.

Amy Morrison is an artist living in Hagerstown, Maryland, whose primary tool is a camera. She prints primarily on stretched canvas. She also selects print surfaces such as wood, slate, acrylic, glass, metal, fabric and paper when appropriate given the unique characteristics of each piece. She favors natural lighting and photographic, processing and printing methods that produce painting-like images, often with a discernable “grainy” look common in the days of film. Many of her creations have an impressionist feel and many are abstract. She enjoys exploration of the many ways digital software can be used to enhance an image to more fully express artistic vision. Her body of work largely comprises nature scenes from within Maryland, primarily from Montgomery, Howard and Carroll counties. Amy's work has been exhibited at Artomatic, Knit Locally, VOLT restaurant, and Kingsview Village Starbucks in Germantown, Maryland, and in other private and public events in the Washington/Maryland/Virginia area.
